As representatives of Amnesty International
Netherlands we had the unique chance to exchange experiences and learn from the
activists from the MENA region. During the Youth camp it was interesting to see
the differences in Amnesty’s work across the globe. By sharing thoughts and
ideas we learned a lot about the Human Rights situation in other countries and
the ways in which we can cooperate between the international sections.
Additionally, we witnessed the immense potential of the youth that is yet to be
realized in the near future. The presentation of bloggers and activist were
deeply impressive and we have great respect for their struggle, will power and
perseverance. We could engage in fruitful discussions, exchange new ideas and
have fun at the same time. Especially, the workshops inspired us to continue
our engagement with Amnesty International and the youth in the MENA region.
Throughout the camp, the students created various social media profiles such as
Facebook pages, Blogs and Twitter accounts. As part of our commitment to the
Youth Camp we will continue working together with all participants. For this
purpose we established a Committee for Human Rights Bloggers including
representatives from Algeria, Libya, Morocco, Tunisia, Bahrain, the
Netherlands/ Germany. With this committee we will set forth the good work that
started with this week. Finally, we are grateful for having been part of this
inspiring group of young people and we are looking forward to our future
cooperation and contact.
